What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional Intelligence (EQ) i the ability to identify and manage one's own emotion as they happen, as well as the emotions of others. EQ consist of five quality's:

Empathy - the capacity to understand or feel what another person id experiencing, recognizing the feelings of others, even when those feelings may not be obvious. It's the ability to identify with and understand the wants, needs, and viewpoints of those around you.

Self-Awareness - Understanding oneself emotions, and because of this, they don't let their feelings rule them. They trust their intuition and don't let their emotions get out of control, resulting one to be more confident. They look at themselves honestly, knowing their strengths and weaknesses, and they work on these areas so they can perform better.

Motivation - People with a high degree of emotional intelligence are usually motivated. They're defer the immediate results for long-term success. This makes them highly productive and effective in whatever they do.

Social Skills - Those with strong social skills are typically team players. They help others develop and shine. They can manage disputes, are excellent communicators, and are masters at building and maintaining relationships.

Self-Regulation - Typically don't allow themselves to become too angry, jealous, or allow their negative emotions control their actions.
How is it different to IQ?
Intelligence quotient (IQ) is ones academic abilities, logical reasoning, word comprehension and math skills. People with higher IQ can think in abstracts and make connections by making generalizations easier. EQ pertains to emotions and social skills rather than intellectual intelligence and capabilities.
Why is it important?
As emotional beings most of our motivation and experiences are determined by our emotions. As we perform better and have a better time when we're in a positive mood. Being-aware of your emotions you can self-regulate and manage emotions.
EQ can help with better communication with others, conflict management, disagreements and relationships building. Have a stronger EQ can lead to a happier, healthier life, with better relationships.
